Learn what each message status in your texting campaigns means, so you can read your results and act on delivery problems. This is for anyone reviewing a Text Broadcast or a Peer-to-Peer campaign.
Why these statuses matter
Every text you send passes through telecom carriers, and each carrier reports back the outcome of delivery. CallHub turns those reports into a small set of statuses so you can see, at a glance, how many messages reached people, how many are still in flight, and how many were blocked or filtered. Reading them correctly helps you spot list-quality problems, avoid paying for undeliverable numbers, and stay in line with telecom regulations and CallHub's Acceptable Usage Policy.
Where you see message statuses
You'll find messages grouped by status in two places:
-
On your campaign's Overview page, where CallHub shows counts for each status.
- In your SMS reports. See Text Broadcast results and SMS reports.
Message status definitions
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Outbound Total | The total number of outbound messages sent from the campaign. |
| Sent | The message was sent, but the carrier hasn't provided a status update yet. |
| Delivered | The carrier confirmed the message was delivered to the recipient's phone. |
| Pending | The system is actively sending; these messages are queued. |
| Failed | The message could not be sent because of network congestion, a switched-off handset, or unavailable service. |
| Filtered | Contact analysis identified the number as a landline, VoIP, invalid, or malformed number. |
| Rejected | The number was already on your CallHub account's Do Not Call (DNC) list. |
| No Route | The carrier and fallback carriers couldn't deliver the SMS because of filtered content, a blocked Caller ID, or a similar issue. See SMS error codes for specifics. |
ⓘ NOTE: Failed messages are not charged. You only pay for messages the system could actually attempt to deliver.
ⓘ NOTE: Rejected means the number was already on your account's DNC list before this campaign ran. These contacts are skipped to keep you compliant.
FAQs
What's the difference between Sent and Delivered?
Sent means the message left CallHub but the carrier hasn't reported an outcome yet. Delivered means the carrier confirmed the message reached the recipient's phone. Sent messages usually move to Delivered, Failed, or No Route once the carrier responds.
Why does a message stay Pending?
Pending means the message is still queued and the system is actively sending. Large campaigns send in batches, so messages later in the queue stay Pending until their turn comes.
