Want to skip certain contacts in a specific campaign without blocking them from all future outreach? A suppression list lets you exclude contacts from one campaign, for example, people your team already reached through door-knocking or another channel, while keeping them contactable everywhere else. Suppression lists work in Call Center and Peer-to-Peer Texting campaigns.
Suppression list vs. DNC: which one do you need?
| Suppression list | DNC list | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Only the campaigns where you enable it | Every campaign on your account |
| Best for | Skipping contacts already reached elsewhere | Contacts who asked not to be contacted |
⚠ WARNING: Don't use the DNC list as a workaround to remove contacts from a single campaign. DNC blocks all future communication with those contacts, not just the current campaign. Use a suppression list instead.
Before you start
- You need admin access to your CallHub account.
- You need a CSV file of the contacts to suppress. Download the sample CSV to see the expected format: a Phone Number column and a Mobile Number column, with numbers in country-code format (for example, 1415980XXXX).
- If you use the Salesforce, NGP VAN, NationBuilder, or PDI integration, you can import the suppression list directly from your CRM instead of a CSV.
- Suppression lists are currently in Phase 1: lists must be imported via CSV or through a supported integration. There is no automated sync based on CRM activity yet.
Import a suppression list
- Go to Contacts > Suppression Lists.
- Click Import Suppression List.
- Enter a name for the list.
- Choose your CSV file.
- Click Save.
Once the import completes, click the list's name to view the contacts in it.
Enable suppression on a campaign
- Go to Campaigns and open your Call Center or Peer-to-Peer Texting campaign.
- Open Settings.
- Turn on Enable Contacts Suppression.
- In the editor, choose the suppression list whose contacts you want to skip in this campaign.
Check it worked
Open the campaign's Overview Statistics. The Contacts Suppressed section shows how many contacts were excluded from outreach. If the number matches your expectations, suppression is working.
ⓘ NOTE: Suppression only applies to campaigns where you enable it. The same contacts remain reachable in your other campaigns.
