Assigned to a Relational Organizing campaign? Here's how to build your network from your phone's contacts and reach out to them from the CallHub Mobile App. This guide is for agents and volunteers.
How Relational Organizing works for agents
Relational organizing is a type of grassroots organizing that focuses on building personal relationships to drive social and political change. It's commonly used in political campaigns, advocacy efforts, and community organizing. Traditional organizing relies on mass advertising and impersonal outreach. Relational organizing uses personal connections to engage people instead.
As an agent, you:
- Build a network by matching your phone's contacts with the campaign, and by adding contacts yourself.
- Reach out to each contact by message, call, or share.
- Track survey progress for the contacts you reach.
Your campaign manager can follow your outreach progress from the Overview Statistics on the admin dashboard.
Before you start
- Install the CallHub Mobile App and keep your agent login handy.
- CallHub needs access to your phone's contacts to match them with the campaign. You'll be asked to allow this in Step 2.
- Your campaign manager chooses a default outreach method when setting up the campaign. You can still use any outreach method to contact your audience.
- Setting up your network takes a few minutes. After that, each outreach takes about as long as a normal call or text.
Step 1: Open your campaign
- Log in to the CallHub Mobile App as an agent.
- On your campaigns screen, tap the Relational Organizing Campaign card.
Step 2: Match your phone contacts with the campaign
- When the app prompts you to build your network, tap Allow to let CallHub access your phone's contacts. CallHub then matches your contacts with the campaign.
- (Optional) On the matched contacts screen, tap View contacts to review who matched.
- (Optional) Unselect any contacts you don't want to reach out to.
-
Tap Add contacts to network.
Step 3: Add more contacts to your network (optional)
If no contacts matched, or you want to add more contacts to the campaign, add them yourself from your phone's contacts or by creating a contact.
Add contacts from your phone
- On the add contacts screen, choose to add contacts from your phone's contacts.
-
Tap the checkbox next to each contact you want to add.
- Tap Add contacts to network.
Create a contact manually
- On the add contacts screen, choose to create a contact.
- Enter the contact's name and phone number.
- Tap Add contacts to network.
ⓘ NOTE: When you add contacts from your phone, contacts that already matched the campaign are grayed out and you can't take any action on them. Why it matters: they're already in your network, so you only need to select the new ones.
Step 4: Reach out to your contacts
-
Tap Start Outreach.
- Tap Message, Call, or Share. The campaign has a default outreach method, but you can use any of the three.
- If you chose Message or Call, send the text or make the call from your phone's own texting or calling app.
- If you chose Share, pick the app you want to share through.
ⓘ NOTE: CallHub uses your phone's native calling and texting apps to call and send messages. Why it matters: you reach your contacts through the same apps you already use every day.
Step 5: Check your survey progress
Skip this step if your outreach doesn't include a survey.
-
Go to the Survey section.
- Check each contact's status. Contacts are marked Completed after they've answered the survey questions.
✓ TIP: Use View contacts before you tap Add contacts to network. It's the easiest way to leave out anyone you don't want to reach out to for this campaign.
