Want your Email Campaigns to send from your own domain instead of a generic address? You need two things set up first: a verified sender domain, and a sender profile built on it. This article walks you through both; it's for campaign managers setting up Email Campaigns for the first time.
Before you start
- You need a domain you control, one where you (or whoever manages your DNS) can add records.
- You need a custom Return-Path record for your account before you can add your domain. CallHub Support provides this value, so reach out to them first if you don't already have it.
- You need access to your CallHub account's Profile settings.
- Adding the domain and profile in CallHub itself takes just a few minutes, but DNS changes can take a while to propagate depending on your domain host.
Why set this up
Email campaigns need a domain that can send and receive mail on your behalf, so this is the one-time setup that makes everything in Set up an Email Campaign on CallHub possible. Verifying your own domain means your emails go out under your name instead of a shared CallHub address, and the sender profile you build on it is what your contacts see as the "from" and "reply-to" address on every email you send.
Step 1: Add your sender domain
- Go to your account Profile, then click Email.
- Click Add domain.
- Enter your domain name.
-
Enter your custom Return-Path record.
ⓘ The Return-Path record is specific to your account. Contact CallHub Support to get yours before you try to add your domain. See What are DKIM and Return Path records? Why do I need them? for what this record does.
Step 2: Create a sender profile
- In the Email section under Profile, click the Sender profile tab.
-
Click Create new profile.
-
Enter a Name, a From email, and a Receiving email address. This completes your sender profile.
Notes & limits
ⓘ You need the custom Return-Path record from CallHub Support before you can add your domain. Why: it's unique to your account, so CallHub can't generate it for you inside the product.
✓ If you're not familiar with DKIM and Return-Path records, read What are DKIM and Return Path records? Why do I need them? before you start. It explains what these records do and why email providers require them.
FAQs
What do I need before I can add a sender domain?
A domain you control, and the custom Return-Path record for your account, which CallHub Support provides.
What's the difference between a sender domain and a sender profile?
The domain is what gets verified at the DNS level, using your Return-Path record. The sender profile is the actual identity built on top of that domain, its Name, From email, and Receiving email, and it's what you select when you create an Email Campaign.
Where do I use the sender profile I create here?
You select it in the Basic Info section when you set up an Email Campaign.
Where can I find the DNS-level setup steps for DKIM and Return-Path?
See How to set up a DKIM and Return Path record for my email domain.
