Text Broadcasting Campaign using NationBuilder

Want to tag contacts, log conversations, and collect event RSVPs in NationBuilder straight from a texting campaign? Once your nation is connected, a Text Broadcast campaign can write tags, replies, and RSVPs back to NationBuilder in real time as messages go out and replies come in. This article is for campaign managers running a Text Broadcast campaign on a connected NationBuilder nation; the same sync behavior applies to Peer-to-Peer Texting campaigns, noted where it differs.

Sync your Text Broadcast campaign

If NationBuilder is where your organizers work, a reply that only lives in CallHub is a reply they never see. Syncing your Text Broadcast campaign means:

You keep one supporter record. Tags, RSVPs, and the conversation itself appear on the person's NationBuilder profile alongside the rest of your organizing data.

You segment on fresh data. Tags sync to NationBuilder as messages are sent and answered, so lists you build from those tags tomorrow already reflect today's texting.

You stay compliant automatically. Contacts who reply STOP or REMOVE are marked Do not call in NationBuilder without anyone touching a record.

Before you start

• Connect NationBuilder to CallHub and import the contact list you plan to text. Campaign-level sync will not work without the connection.
• You need a CallHub account with permission to create campaigns.
• Adding NationBuilder fields while creating the campaign takes about 5 minutes. Results sync to NationBuilder in real time as messages are sent and answered.

⚠ Data flows back to NationBuilder only if you select a Contact type in the campaign's setup. If you skip it, your campaign's replies and tags are not written to NationBuilder, and there is no way to sync them retroactively. Set it before you launch.

Set up the sync

1. On the CallHub Dashboard, click Create under the Text Broadcast section. For the full campaign flow, see Set up a Text Broadcast campaign.
2. In the NationBuilder integration section, select the Contact type field. This is the list of contact types imported from your nation, and it must be selected for data to log back to NationBuilder.
3. In Sent Tag, pick the tag CallHub adds to every contact your campaign messages.

4. In Response Tag, pick the tag CallHub adds to every contact who replies. 

   

5. In Custom Field Slug, enter the NationBuilder custom field where the messages to and from each contact should be stored. These four fields control what a Text Broadcast writes back to NationBuilder.  

6. If you use trigger keywords, set the tags CallHub should add for each keyword. Keyword replies are logged back to NationBuilder too. 

   

7. In the NationBuilder RSVP Event section, select the NationBuilder Site and the RSVP event you want replies to RSVP contacts into. Pick the site and event, then map tags to each keyword.
8. Complete the Settings tab and click Finish.

⚠ Replies with the keywords STOP or REMOVE automatically update the contact's Do not call status in NationBuilder. Never message these contacts again from any platform; doing so can violate TCPA rules. 

Peer-to-Peer Texting campaigns

A Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Texting campaign syncs the same survey responses, RSVPs, and tags as a Text Broadcast campaign, and it also records the volunteer's name in the contact's Activity section in NationBuilder.

Notes and limits

⚠ No Contact type, no sync. It must be set before launch, and a campaign that skips it cannot sync its data later.

✓ Click Sync now on the Integrations page before you build the campaign, so the newest tags, sites, and events from your nation are available to select. 

FAQs

Why isn't my campaign data appearing in NationBuilder? 
The most common cause is a missing Contact type. It must be selected before the campaign runs for any data to flow back.

Where do I see text conversations in NationBuilder? 
In the custom field you set in Custom Field Slug, on the contact's profile. Tags and RSVPs appear on the profile and in the contact's activity.

Does a P2P Texting campaign sync differently? 
It syncs the same survey responses, RSVPs, and tags as a Text Broadcast campaign, and it also records the volunteer's name in the contact's Activity section.

How fast is the sync? 
Real time. Data is written to NationBuilder as messages are sent and answered.
